The Southwest Collegiate Hockey League (SCHL) was
founded in 1994-1995 with the primary goal of promoting and supporting collegiate
hockey in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana by emphasizing academic performance,
institutional sanction, eligibility criteria, standards of play, and opportunities
for national competition.
The SCHL is a founding member of the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA).
As a reaction to a CRHL Restructuring of January 2002 that birthed 3 separate CRHL programs
(Premier, Competitive, and Development), culminating with 2 months of final negotiations in
the summer of 2003, the Member Organizations of CRHL, voicing a desire to change the administrative
structure of the CRHL for various reasons, separated from the CRHL. Citing irreconcilable
differences along with the need to bring more benefits to their members and enhance trust
and communication under a not-for-profit corporate structure, 5 Member Organizations of the
CRHL announced their separation from CRHL and the creation of the National Collegiate Roller
Hockey Association (NCRHA). On August 1, 2003 the Atlantic Collegiate Roller Hockey Association
(ACRHA), Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (ECRHA), Southwest Collegiate Hockey
League (SCHL), Southeast Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (SCRHA) and Western Collegiate
Roller Hockey League (WCRHL) parted from CRHL and announced the creation of the National
Collegiate Roller Hockey Association.
The NCRHA represents the next major step in the pursuit of the original CRHL goals and visions.
The policies by which the NCRHA will be governed are based upon the goal of a nationally recognized
and regionally organized collegiate roller hockey structure and the best interests of the
participants of college roller hockey.
